Appointments

Urgent appointments

To request an urgent appointment for today or tomorrow (Monday to Friday):

  • Telephone; please call your normal surgery
  • visit the surgery and speak with a receptionist, Monday to Friday from 8am to 6pm

When you get in touch, we’ll ask what you need help with.

We will use the information you give us to choose the most suitable doctor, nurse or health professional to help you.

Routine appointments

To request a routine appointment in the next 7 days:

  • Online; only available for patients registered with SystmOnline (please click here to log in)
  • you can contact us using our PATCHS online system
  • Telephone; please call your normal surgery
  • visit the surgery and speak with a receptionist, Monday to Friday from 8am to 6pm
  • use your NHS account (through the NHS website or NHS App) to book a screening test or vaccination

Patients are advised to telephone the surgery at 8am to obtain an appointment.

Once all on the day appointments are gone the receptionist follows a triage system established by the doctors to establish whether there is a risk of dangerous deterioration in a patients condition. Only in such cases can the receptionist request a call back on the day from the on call GP.

If you have anymore unanswered questions click here for the Practice Appointments Leaflet, and it may have the answer to your query.

Your appointment

However you choose to contact us, we may offer you a consultation:

  • by phone
  • face to face at the surgery
  • on a video call
  • by text or email

Appointments by phone, video call or by text or email can be more flexible and often means you get help sooner.

Help Us To Help You

  • Cancel unwanted appointments in good time so this can be offered to other patients.
  • Arrive in time for appointments. Late arrivals will only be seen at the doctor’s discretion.
  • Ensure your information is up to date – SMS reminders are sent to help you remember your appointment dates and times.
  • If you require a home visit call before 11 AM so the doctor can plan their day.
  • Treat practice staff with the same courtesy as you would expect from them. Abusive patients will be removed from the practice list.
  • Please be prepared to give additional information to practice staff when requested. Additional information will only be requested when it is necessary for a doctor to make a proper decision on how to proceed.
  • Make a separate appointment for each patient.
  • Appointments are 10 minute slots, clinicians can only deal with 1 issue per appointment.
  • If English is not your first language and you require an interpreter please inform reception so an interpreter can be arranged.
  • Ensure your contact details are kept up to date.

GP Registrars / Students

This is a training practice and you may be seen by a GP Registrar. Student doctors and nurses are occasionally attached to the practice. You may be asked to consent to having a video recording made of your consultation. You will be informed in advance and should advise reception if you have any objections.

Cancelling or changing an appointment

To cancel your appointment:

  • use your NHS account (through the NHS website or NHS App)
  • using the GP online system – SystmOnline
  • Telephone; please call your normal surgery
  • reply CANCEL to your appointment reminder text message

Missed Appointments (DNA’s)

Unfortunately for several reasons, each month there are numerous patients who do not attend their scheduled GP or Nurse appointment. This wastes a large amount of GP & Nurse time, but also prevents other patients from booking those appointments.

We ask all patients to please:

  • To inform us if you cannot make the appointment.
  • To contact the surgery if you are late rather than not attending, as the appointment can be cancelled or other arrangements may be able to be made.
  • To keep appointments as much as possible.
  • To inform the surgery of any issues, problems or complaints to enable them to be dealt with quickly.

If you need help when we are closed

If you need medical help now, use NHS 111 online or call 111.

NHS 111 online is for people aged 5 and over. Call 111 if you need help for a child under 5.

Call 999 in a medical or mental health emergency. This is when someone is seriously ill or injured and their life is at risk.

If you need help with your appointment

Please tell us:

  • if there’s a specific doctor, nurse or other health professional you would prefer to respond
  • if you would prefer to consult with the doctor or nurse by phone, face-to-face, by video call or by text or email
  • if you need an interpreter
  • if you have any other access or communication needs

Home visits

Whilst we encourage our patients to come to the surgery, where we have the proper equipment and facilities available, we do appreciate this is not always possible. In this respect, if you do need a home visit, you can help us by calling before 11:00am.

You may only request a home visit if you are housebound or are too ill to visit the Practice. Your GP will only visit you at home if they think that your medical condition requires it and will also decide how urgently a visit is needed. Please bear this in mind and be prepared to provide suitable details to enable the doctor to schedule house calls.

You may also be visited at home by a community nurse if you are referred by your GP and may also be visited at home by a health visitor if you have recently had a baby, or if you are newly registered with a GP and have a child under five years.
